May 29th 2015

Celebrating ooh look it's the king and educating the public to its importance

About

For over 200 years the glorious 29th of May was a celebration to commemorate the restoration of the English monarchy.

Once know as Oak Apple day the celebration lives on in Woking as Ooh look, it's the King!

Tradition

Woking residents celebrate 'Ooh look, it's the King!' by wearing traditional royal dress and eating starling pie at Woking's first public house, where Charles II is rumoured to have once enjoyed more than a tipple. Many Woking residents now claim to be descendents of his.

Beetroot

The humble root vegetable forms a corner stone of ooh look its the king celebrations.
Beetroot pantling involves the passing of a large beetroot on wooden spoons, beetroot races are occasionally held and the decorating of beetroots to mimic you beloved royal family.

Get Involved

We wish to spread the joy of this wonderful event and anyone wishing to establish their own celebration needs only a few simple items:
1) a public house
2) crowns and robes
3) wooden spoons

4) beetroots

A quote to sum up OLITK "when you turn up to the pub brandishing a beetroot and some spoons... and everyone suddenly knows the rules - you're hanging out with the right people."
